Making the Most of Easter Study

For students across Ireland, Easter is the final run-in before the Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert exams. It’s a strange time because you know the exams are close, but there’s still enough time to make a real difference.

The Leaving Cert written exams start on Wednesday, 4th June 2026, and the Junior Cycle exams begin shortly after, on Wednesday, 10th June 2026. That leaves just over two months from Easter to get yourself into a good position.

It might feel like a long time, but it goes quickly. What you do now can take a lot of pressure off later.

Why Easter Study Matters

By this stage, most of the course is covered. Easter gives you the chance to go back over things at your own pace and properly understand them.

It’s a good time to:

  • go over topics you didn’t fully get the first time
  • start working through exam papers
  • get familiar with how questions are asked
  • build a bit of confidence before the final push

Even doing a small bit each day can make a big difference.

Finding a Balance

You don’t need to be at the desk all day. In fact, that usually leads to burnout fairly quickly.

A better approach is to:

  • do a few focused study sessions each day
  • keep your evenings or part of your day free
  • make time to relax and switch off

There’s no point in doing hours of study if none of it is going in.

Tips to Stay on Track

Make a simple plan
Break your subjects into smaller chunks and spread them out across the week. Don’t try to do everything at once.

Use active study
Practice questions, write things out, test yourself. Just reading notes won’t do much at this stage.

Focus on what you find difficult
It’s tempting to stick to the easy stuff, but you’ll get more out of working on the topics you’re unsure about.

Mix your subjects
Switching between subjects helps keep your head fresh and stops things getting too repetitive.

Taking Proper Breaks

Breaks are just as important as study.

Go for a walk, meet friends, watch something, or just take time away from your books. Even a short break can help you come back more focused.

A simple way to manage it is about 50 minutes of study followed by a 10 to 15 minute break.

Keeping the Right Mindset

It’s easy to feel under pressure around now, but try not to let it get on top of you.

You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to keep going.

A bit of steady work every day is far better than cramming at the last minute.

Final Thoughts

Easter doesn’t have to be all work and no break. You can still enjoy your time off while getting something done.

This is one Easter where you might need to put in a bit more effort than usual, but it won’t last forever.

Get a good routine going now, keep it manageable, and it will stand to you when the exams come around.
